She continued her dance of destruction, threatening to wipe out everything in existence. To stop her, the gods prayed to Lord Shiva, who then lay down in her path.
When Kali, lost in her frenzy, stepped on Shiva’s chest, she suddenly realized whom she had stepped upon. She bit her tongue in shame, a gesture signifying that she had lost control. This act of stepping on Shiva made her regain her awareness, helping her transition from destruction to balance.
