Lord Shani, the deity of justice and karma in Hinduism, is known for his powerful influence over human destiny. He is the son of Lord Surya (the Sun God) and Goddess Chhaya. According to various Hindu scriptures and regional beliefs, Lord Shani is said to have two wives—Neelima (Neela Devi) and Manda (Dhamini).

Neelima (Neela Devi)

Neelima, also known as Neela Devi, is believed to be the daughter of the celestial musician Chitraratha. According to some legends, she was deeply devoted to Lord Shani and married him with love and respect. However, due to the powerful and intense nature of Shani Dev’s gaze, she was unintentionally affected by his divine influence. Some stories suggest that his gaze caused her distress, leading to difficulties in their marital life. Over time, they reconciled, and she came to be worshipped as one of his divine consorts.

Manda (Dhamini)

Manda, also known as Dhamini, is another wife of Lord Shani and is also said to be the daughter of Chitraratha. She was a virtuous and loving wife, but due to Shani Dev’s deep meditation and dedication to his duties as the lord of karma, he neglected her. Feeling ignored, Dhamini cursed him, stating that his gaze would always bring hardship. This curse is believed to be the reason why Lord Shani’s vision is considered inauspicious in astrology.

Despite these challenges, both wives played an important role in his divine responsibilities. Worshippers of Shani Dev believe that honoring his consorts can help mitigate his harsh influence and bring blessings. Their stories symbolize patience, devotion, and the consequences of karma in human life.
