Abhishekam Ritual: Importance and Advantages of Giving Lord Shiva Water

Mythological Origin:
Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma are engaged in a cosmic conflict, which is described in the Vidyeshwar Samhita. In the Varaha Avatar, Lord Brahma ascends and Lord Vishnu descends to find the beginning and end of a massive column of fire. Years go by, but neither finds the ends. To prove his superiority, Brahma approaches the fallen flower Ketaki for help. Brahma lies as a witness next to Ketaki as Vishnu admits that the column is infinite.

When the two fight, Lord Shiva assumes the form of the Bhairav Avatar, who punishes Brahma for lying by severing the fifth head and denounces Ketaki for being a false witness. Then Shiva grants the two gods wisdom and declares that Vishnu is worshipped as a god of truth.
Abhishekam
